About Me

Our kindergarten encourages children to learn and grow independently and together fostering the well being of both family and community, where the wonderful spreading elm tree enhances our outdoor play area. This blog is a wonderful way to keep in touch with whanau/families, both in Dunedin and further afield.

Term 2 nearly at an end already!!

Wow, we have had such a busy term. Time has just flown by and we all can't believe there's only 3 weeks to go until the term break!

One of the things the morning children have really been enjoying learning about this term is cultural awareness. We have been learning different greetings from around the world together and enjoy using these on a daily basis. Following on from this we had the DKA Ko Matua, Huata Holmes in to help us revisit our mihi and make some improvements. Everybody now has a deeper of understaing of what our mihi means and how to say it correctly.

Today we celebrated the beginning of the Maori New Year - Matariki. This was a fantastic opportunity to have shared kai with both the morning and afternoon tamariki/children and their families/whanau.
It was great to see you all here on this cold winter day and we really enjoyed catching up.

The kindergarten swap with Grants Braes kindergarten the other day was also really enoyed by all and was a wonderful opportunity to get out there into the wider community.

Well that's it for now.
Keep warm and enjoy the rest of the term.
Ka kite ano!
