Our kindergarten encourages children to learn and grow independently and together fostering the well being of both family and community, where the wonderful spreading elm tree enhances our outdoor play area. This blog is a wonderful way to keep in touch with whanau/families, both in Dunedin and further afield.

Real Work!

There has been lots of activity so far this term. With the Commonwealth games on TV the first week back of term 4, the children really enjoyed replicating what they were seeing. Lots of active movement everywhere – from running races, soccer games and bike races to indoor gymnastics.

The other focus that is evolving is ‘Real Work’. Children are enjoying the new tools that have been purchased recently, building many things including our ongoing project of building a play house! They have also been enjoying role playing ‘real work’ by being the teachers, playing shop etc. Apparently teachers do a lot of fire drills with the tamariki/children as the 'new' teachers have had us lined up against the fence calling our names out over the last few weeks!! The children have also enjoyed putting on shows at morning mat time. In particular the boys love getting up on stage and showing us how the haka is done - just like the All Blacks!
